Old Lincoln Highway Cross Country Bicycle Tour (with individual segmented portions of the tours)
The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental automobile route in the United States. Beginning in New York and ending 3389 miles westward in San Francisco, it was conceived in 1913 by its founders as "a continuous connecting improved highway from the Atlantic to the Pacific." The Lincoln Highway as the catalyst of a "Good Roads" movement throughout America which ultimately involved the national government, which created the system of federal highways (in 1926) and the interstate highways (in 1956) that we take for granted today.
Ride the whole way across the U.S vie the Old Lincoln Highway enjoying the rich history of the first transcontinental highway or join up and ride one of our segmented portions. We plan to offer a cross country trip as well as several segmented versions allowing riders of all different time and financial requirements a chance to participate making it both convenient and affordable for all to join in and have a share. The main tour route will be broken down into either weekend and/or weekly segments designed for both those that can get away for the weekend or only a week of vacation. Segments will not necessarily overlap.
